Low-Energy Homes

If energy efficient design is the top priority for your new home, then you have landed at the right place. At Passive House Adelaide, we design and build low-energy homes that provide a high level of comfort all year round while using very less energy for space heating and cooling. We specialise in creating ultra-low energy and energy-efficient homes that are carefully designed and optimised for low energy consumption, passive solar gain and comfortable living. Our low-energy homes are comfortable, affordable and 3 times more energy efficient than a standard house. Whether it is a complete rebuild or a modest renovation, we can deliver energy-efficient homes that comply with Passivhaus (Passive House) standards. We are here to help you create a low-energy house that is highly energy efficient, friendly to the environment, comfortable, and results in lower energy bills for the occupant.

Our Low-Energy Homes are Comfortable All Year Round and Helps You Save on Energy Bills and Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

Our low-energy homes are specially engineered and optimised to provide maximum savings on your power bills, and high level of comfort all year round with minimum impact on our planet. We design and build low-energy houses that are airtight and thermally efficient, helping you cut utility costs while minimising your environmental footprint. Energy-efficient homes are designed and built to achieve the highest level of comfort while having the minimum energy requirement for space heating and cooling.

All our low-energy houses have a high level of thermal insulation, an airtight building envelope, high performance windows/doors, and a controlled fresh air ventilation system. Our low-energy houses don’t rely heavily on mechanical heating systems even during the coldest winter months, because they make efficient use of the sun.

These houses are perfectly oriented and designed to maximise the use of free solar gains. The passive solar heating technique lets in the winter sun, and the airtight building envelope keeps the heat inside. The high level of thermal insulation and proper ventilation solutions maintain a pleasant internal temperature during the winters. Low-energy houses come with blinds or shutters and use strategic shading to maintain a comfortable temperature during the summer months. This helps you save money on your energy bills by minimising the costs of space heating and cooling.

Low-energy houses offer a high level of comfort all year round, and maintain the interior temperature far better than standard homes. Our low-energy homes stay warmer in winter, cooler in summer and dry all year round. There is a very less chance of damp and mould developing. These houses don’t rely heavily on heating and cooling systems to maintain the internal temperature, all thanks to the high level of thermal insulation, double or triple glazed windows, and an airtight building envelope, among other features.

Our low-energy houses are carefully engineered and perfectly oriented to offer cooling and heating related energy savings of up to 90% compared to standard homes. The energy-saving benefits of our low-energy homes also help reduce your carbon footprint. Low-energy houses help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect our environment for future generations. These highly energy-efficient homes require fewer carbon emissions compared to standard homes with poor thermal insulation.

Benefits of Low-Energy Homes

From the ground floor to the roof, low-energy houses are better in terms of longevity. They are more protected and more long-lasting than the standard homes, thanks to the high level of insulation, sufficient ventilation, airtight building envelope, fresh filtered air, and sophisticated window technology, among other features.

Our low-energy houses offer a number of benefits that include but are not limited to:

  • Energy Efficient
  • Reduced Environmental Footprint
  • Lasts Longer
  • Enhanced Indoor Air Quality
  • Highly Resilient
  • Low on Maintenance
  • Sound Insulated
  • Cost Effective
  • Fewer Utility Bills

Features of Our Low-Energy Homes

At Passive House Adelaide, our aim is to deliver low-energy homes that are not only comfortable all year round, but also keeps your energy bills to a minimum and helps reduce your carbon footprint. We make sure the Passivhaus principles used to build an energy-efficient home are followed throughout all the stages of the project – right from the design phase to detailing and construction.

We employ the main principles of energy-smart design and construction. The core principles include:

  • Airtightness: The airtight building envelope enhances thermal comfort. It acts as a solid air barrier so no air leaks in or out. This ensures high level of comfort with no draughts or leaks. It gives you full control over your internal environment.
  • Orientation: The house is carefully designed and oriented to make efficient use of the sun and the prevailing winds in your location. Proper orientation can deliver year-round comfort and reduce your cooling and heating needs.
  • Thermal Insulation: There should be sufficient insulation within the building’s envelope to keep your home warm in winter and cool in summer. The right balance of thermal insulation is needed to maintain the internal comfort regardless of the external conditions.
  • High-Performance Windows: The windows of low energy homes in Goolwa should be double or triple glazed depending on your location. To prevent heat transfer, the frames should be made of non-heat conductive materials.
  • Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery (MVHR)– The MVHR system provides fresh filtered air while retaining 90% of indoor temperature. It recovers heat while replacing the air in the home with filtered, fresh and clean air every three hours.
  • Thermal Bridge Free Construction: Proper design and construction techniques should be implemented in order to prevent heat loss from thermal bridging. The insulation needs to be continuous and sufficient in thickness.
